Jobs at Responsible Businesses, Eco-Friendly Companies, and Nonprofit Organizations

We're very excited about this new service. Most of us spend about half our waking lives working, so we better love what we do! That makes finding the right job - one that reflects our personal values (and still pays well!) - incredibly important.

The Care2 JobFinder includes a huge array of jobs from a wide variety of the world's most socially and environmentally responsible companies, plus jobs and internships at thousands of nonprofit organizations.

Work for a company you can be passionate about!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What's "Socially Responsible"?

No organization is perfect. In fact, we all can do more. But some companies stand out for taking action to improve the quality of life for their customers, employees, communities, and the environment.

Perhaps one of the most important attributes of a Socially Responsible Business (SRB) is that they demonstrate a commitment toward continuous improvement. Social values change, new challenges emerge, and companies face challenges balancing their values and the bottom line.

The companies whose jobs are featured in the Care2 JobFinder have been screened both for negative attributes (e.g. we don't include companies in the tobacco or gambling industries) as well as for positive attributes (e.g. Nike recently published the names and locations of all 700 of its contract facilities - an extraordinary step toward transparency ... and as they say, if you're going to take your clothes off, you'd better be buff ;)

Bottom line, everyone has a different interpretation of what's responsible. For some, only the greenest of the green will do. For others of your, a company making great strides in one area, such as giving back to the community, may compensate for aspects of their business that need improvement. We recommend before you accept any job offer that you conduct your own research to better understand how the company meets your own values.

What was your screening methodology?

We worked with social responsibility screening experts, KLD Analytics, to help us identify the best public companies in the U.S. KLD reviews numerous sources to analyze positive and negative attributes including community impact, corporate governance, diversity, employee relations, environment, human rights, and the product itself.

We started with this list, then kicked out a number of companies we felt just weren't making the grade, then added a number of private companies we respect most. We also got lots of feedback from our members to further refine our list.

How'd you come up with such a huge list of jobs?

We'd like to take credit for this, but the geniuses at SimplyHired.com get big kudos for making this happen. Their system searches thousands of job and volunteer sites around the web, compiles a huge list of job opportunities and de-duplicates them. You can think of it in the same way that Google indexes web sites. We then used our "socially responsible" companies list as a screen to display just the jobs from the companies on our list.

How can you say Company X is "Responsible" when they....

The challenge with ever publishing a list of socially responsible companies is that almost every company (particularly the big ones) has some (non-organic) dirt in its closet. See our definition for "what's responsible" above.

And for some folks, "business" almost by definition is evil. On this point we strongly disagree. Businesses have to part of the solution, and have the potential for enormous good. It's important to support the companies making great progress.

That said, this service is in beta, there may be some mistakes in there, and we're interested in hearing your feedback if you think we've made a bad call or have some bugs in our implementation. We'll be updating the companies in the database periodically, as well as the way we do our filtering, so your feedback is important to us.

If a company or job isn't listed here, does that mean it's not socially responsible?

While we'd like to have this be an all-encompassing, we're not there yet. It's simply not possible to do a broad based screening and comparison of specific jobs within and across companies - so there are many "responsible job" openings within not-so-responsible companies that we don't capture. We greatly respect those individuals who have chosen to help move their not-so-responsible employer in a more responsible direction. We simply don't have a reliable way to include those opportunities here.

What kind of Nonprofit job opportunities are included?

We've developed the world's largest list of nonprofit job opportunities using the same system described above. We've focused mainly on jobs at 501(c)3's that support human rights, the environment, people with disabilities, and social welfare.

Do you offer Volunteer Opportunities as well?

Absolutely - see our Volunteer Network page.
